Here’s my own blog launch formula. It is an absolute beauty. Follow this strategy and it’s a surefire way to successfully launch ANY blog in ANY niche. I won’t make any wild claims about the number of visitors you will receive, nor the number of pages you will have indexed in Google, nor the number of mentions you will have in Google, suffice to say, you will be amazed with it’s advantages, especially on your time and effort invested.

You will have noticed that blogs and blogging play a big part in the 7 Sexy SEO Secrets. In fact, it is the 7th and in my opinion, the sexiest seo secret of them all; BLOG.

Here’s the launch formula that I personally use when I’m serious about a blog. You can adjust accordingly for less important blogs, but trimmer beware, who knows where the secret sauce lies?

Task + How Long?

1. Keyword Research and Domain Purchase 1 hour

2. Install WordPress blog 30 mins

3. Install 2 tag plug ins, change the permalinks to /%category%/%postname%/, insert ping list, insert header. 30 mins.

4. Create my Feedburner feed and submit RSS feeds once posts have been completed. Also add my Buzzboost to display in sidebar 30 mins

5. Insert sign up form using Aweber 30 mins

6. Installing Google Analytics and submit Google Sitemap 20 mins

7. Set up RSS Bookmarker to take care of my social bookmarking. Could also use AutoSocialPoster 30 mins

8. Claiming a blog at Technorati. Also submit to Entrecard (worth buying a few ads) and BlogCatalog. 30 mins

9. Writing 5 unique articles and post on blog. Submit same articles to Ezine + Article Marketer 3 hours

10. Install WP-O-Matic to publish RSS feed 30 mins

11. Start a low budget PPC campaign on Yahoo, MSN or Google for selected keywords. 2 hours

12. Creating a video and post to video distribution sites. Also post video on my site. Also bookmark video by adding video RSS Feed to RSS Bookmarker. 2 hours

13. Linking to blog from 4 of my other blogs, including 2 of my blogger blogs. Add FAQ, privacy and contact pages to my site. 1 hour

14. Adding my site to links network plus submitting the RSS Feeds = 10 mins.

15. Completely rewrite 25 PLR articles and set them up for sporadic posting over the next month or so. Submit those too. 8 hours.

16. Submit site to directories using a directory submission service 30 mins

17. Writing and submitting a press release = 1 hour.

18. Writing and submitting various classified ads 2 hours

19. (Potential to buy links but Google may frown on this practice. Buyer beware!) 1 hour

20. Forum posting (genuine, not Spam), include Warrior Forum Special Offer 5 hours

21. Installing ad tracking codes on certain campaigns to measure return on time/money invested 1 hour

22. Rifle shot approach to top listings in Google and other target sites, contacting each site individually and exploring advertising/joint venture opportunities. 5 hours

TOTAL, give or take 40 hours.

* Please note that it takes about 5 minutes per account just registering for each bookmarking sites. So, if you don’t have any accounts set up as yet, please allow yourself around 3 hours just setting up 30 weird accounts.

There you go. Appreciate it that this is a bit extreme for some blogs but thought it might cut out a lot of guesswork for others.

1 – Comment Google adores a blog. Sometimes you will find another blog in one of those coveted page 1 positions. Many of those blogs accept comments. So, always leave one. You know the rules by now. 2 – Do a search – Search on Google for your target keyword. Visit the top 10 sites with the mindset: “How do I get my link on THIS site?”. The answer probably lies above or beneath you. For example, you may often see an article directory, such as Ezine Articles, occupying one of the top spots. Another great strategy is to use an article submission service. So, if you were to write and submit an article, with your target keyword as part of the headline, who knows what might happen? Especially if you submit the RSS feed of all your articles, as mentioned in step 1.

3 – Advertise – If all else fails, use the power of advertising. Buy a cheap AdWords campaign and if you cant afford the click costs for your target keyword then focus instead on the long tail keywords that are related to your target keyword (they are a lot cheaper). You can also buy ads on specific sites on a per click or per impression basis. Facebook is also a good, sometimes cheaper, alternative to AdWords. There are plenty of great advertising opportunities, where it is relatively cheap to advertise on other people’s sites and blogs including a number of other excellent options.

Some independent sites also accept banner and link advertising. Some will if you ask them, so if you see a site in that top position and you want to be part of that, send them an email. You’ll be surprised how small the fee is for a decently placed banner or link.

By the way, you will note that I didn’t mention social bookmarking. Now, of course, that’s important and you may want to see which of your pages are doing well first and then social bookmark a few of them in some of the more popular social bookmarking sites. Start off at socialmarker, Digg and Stumbleupon from there. But in closing, I think social bookmarking alone will not be enough to get you on page 1.

Now, I challenge you to prove me wrong and then tell me.

I guess that’s the secret really. Don’t think of page 1 as an unreachable land. Rather think of it as YOUR territory and you just want to stake your claim. You want your piece of it. Like I said at the start, with a properly thought out SEO campaign, you can own page 1, with your own web-sites, but these ‘bullying’ strategies are certainly the next best thing and will give you quicker, but often shorter lived results.. As long as you own the spot on page 1 in Google, even if it’s not your site, it’s great as that means your competitor is out from the race.
