Weekly Craft Show Tips Part Three

by Rick Amorey

Think again if you presume that it is an easy thing to predict which item among your goods will sell well at a weekly fair. I dare say that it is nigh impossible to know such things; or how much you will make in a week, for that matter. Some of my crafts have been gathering dust for about a month, and I think about discarding them. But, it never fails, once I’m about to remove it, someone swoops down and buys it before I blink an eye to contemplate the situation.

There is really no way to tell if you will be able to sell each individual product. But, it’s a lot harder to face the fact that there is no way to find out how much you will sell all in all for every week that you set up a booth. It feels invigorating when your sales are on the up and up, and everyone seems to love your crafted items. But, when all you get for your pains and effort is a few furtive glances, then everything seems to be downright depressing.

Strive to keep your emotions in check, if you are doing a weekly show. Nothing says you have talent better than having your goods sell themselves. But, on the other hand, it’s also true in the opposite direction when it seems like no one wants to purchase your crafted works. You may start to question your talent, and will probably get disheartened.

Focus on the numbers and tally those, instead of stressing over your week to week sales. Try to see if you have had any good sales over longer periods of time; statistical data will provide a better understanding of your success than an individual day of effort. Find out what your weekly average is, and put an effort to maintaining or raising it.

Lastly, I will have to advise you to be cautious about customers haggling. Unfortunately, this is something that every seller in booths and stalls will have to contend with. You may even grow to hate it. You aren’t some cheap flea market vendor, after all. You are the one who makes and puts in effort into the things they want to buy. Don’t take it personally, though. It’s just the haggler’s mindset, and from their point of view, they just want to save money.

Backpacker Travel Insurance

by Roc Selly

Perhaps you are taking off for any length of time on a journey, family holiday or business. If so it should not be a question of whether or not to buy insurance but rather who to get your insurance from. Low cost backpacker travel insurance is perfect for backpackers, students on gap year travel and any young person in search of affordable travel insurance when taking long trips. For many people, becoming a backpacker is the first real experience of controlling and organising every aspect of their life and while this can be daunting, it is also very rewarding.

You are under no obligation to purchase your backpacker travel insurance from your travel agent who organised your trip even though you may feel pressured into it. Just ignore the pressure as, in fact, you would be better off sourcing your insurance from an independent travel insurance provider.

While it’s pretty obvious why so many backpackers simply opt for the cheapest backpacker travel insurance available it’s also important to make sure that when you’re offered a cheap backpacker travel insurance quote, you examine the small print. You may find that your so-called cheap backpacker travel insurance doesn’t actually deliver you sufficient insurance cover for the activities or destinations you’re expecting to take part in during your backpacking adventure.

Your backpacker travel insurance policy should always include cover for medical emergencies, equipment damage, loss of personal possessions, personal liability, delays while travelling and legal costs. Free health services are not benefitted from in all countries so unless you’ve got the protection of good backpacker travel insurance be prepared for potentially high costs of medical treatment. If you happen to get sick on your travels, backpacker travel insurance can provide you with financial cover for added assistance.

If you want to add cover while you are abroad if you decide to do different activities or acquire new items or if you need to access or update your backpacker travel insurance policy online remember to purchase online backpacker travel insurance if you’re going to benefit from having a policy accessible online.

It is normal for a standard backpacker travel insurance policy to include some sort of limitation on the travel period and backpacker travel insurance is likely to be longer than that of a standard policy so make sure that you are aware of any limitations held within your backpacker travel insurance before you leave. Backpacker travel insurance policies normally have most basic cover levels but still give you the liberty of maximising your experience abroad without any fear of financial crisis.

If you plan on working while you’re on your backpacking experience, confirm that your chosen backpacker travel insurance policy covers you for holiday work and that it provides cover for vulnerable baggage, personal possessions and cash.

Napa Mustard Festival

by Ian Kleine

Come the time when mustard is ripe for the picking, the season for the Napa Valley Mustard Festival begins. The period usually extends from January to mid-March. It offers, food, art, wine and culture during its 3 month long celebration.

The festival was made to attract visitors to local businesses during these first three months when the mustard fields are lush with green and yellow. With this reason to celebrate, the tourists also are able to discover and explore the subtlety and the elegance of Napa Valley. This event also unites the mustard growers in the area, to be able to come up with the most wonderful of festival events and reasons for revelry.

The festival had started off with no funds at all, George Rothwell had the challenge of making an event for the community so that it could ‘liven up the winter months and explore the spectacular scenery’. But thanks to the Summers-McCann Public Relations, a company responsible for the marketing food and wine with the arts, he was able to get enough funds to start his plan.

The Mustard season has been unprecedented and underused up until Mr. Rothwell had seen the feasibility of using it to promote tthe Valley. Before the festival was established, there had already been a growing crowd that had planned to visit Napa Valley during the months of January, February and March. Now that it has been established, the visitors had a reason to go to Napa Valley at these supposedly sleepy months, the hotels now have no need to cut off employees during the winter months and market revenues are up by a whole lot of shares.

Napa Valley is more known for its wines, but you can never have too much of a good mustard as well. Try and visit Napa Valley for the annual Mustard Festival to experience good food, good wine, and good service.

The Lawful Way of Making Money at a Craft Fair

by Rick Amorey

As a person of significant talent, you probably made creative items and then gave them as gifts or sold them to family and friends. But trust me, the time will come for you to really need to make solid income from your craft projects. You’ll have to start joining craft shows; but before you can do so, you’ll have to get a tax ID number.

You may be initially see the tax ID and gag at the thought of needless record keeping and lost income. But truthfully, a tax ID number is the best way to get you started in the world of craft retail. Once you have a tax ID number, in fact, you can even decide become a wholesaler - what this means is that you can unload your crafts to a store or person who will then resell them for their own income.

To get a tax ID and be on your way to start selling at local craft shows, go to your state’s Department of Revenue Website and find the necessary literature and application forms. I strongly recommended that you read the documents properly to ensure that obtaining a tax ID is right for you. Once your application is complete and the tax ID is confirmed, you can go online to look for some shows and fairs where you can sell your crafts.

Be in touch the local chamber of commerce in your area, or simply use an Internet search engine in to find out about upcoming events that include craft shows. Once you have a good list and got in touch with all the relevant people to apply for a spot, you need to spend a fair amount of effort to get organized. Here are some of my tips that may be helpful:

*Be sure that you bring enough stock for your craft items. A large group of people think that “running out of stock” for an item is okay and is is a measure of good business. The fact, however, is that if you sell out, it tells you that you probably could have sold more. You should always go home with a few items still on your person.

*Go to the show prepared with price signs; one for yourself and one for your display. You may lose a significant amount of potential customers who don’t like asking you how much every single item is. So post it, but don’t make it crowd the display.

*While we’re on the topic of displays, make sure you think about how you’ll present your booth in advance. A table with a tablecloth works well, but with just a few tasteful additions, you can make “well” turn into “unique.” Add color, or buy a shelf. Above all, always take charge and come up with new ways to display your crafts.

Who Else Wants Alloy Wheels In UK?

by Sandra Yakemen

Let’s face it; alloy wheels are immensely popular and as such, they’re an accessory on the vast majority of cars nowadays. Whether they are fitted by the owner of a car, or whether they were fitted prior to the car leaving the factory, alloy wheels are something most car owners want and thanks to the ever increasing demand, alloy wheels are now readily available, providing of course that you know where to look.

So why do people want these wheels on their vehicles? Because they look good, of course! With our desire to show off and look great, these wheels come in handy in more ways than one. Men and women who drive any type of car make use of wheels like these.

When you are looking to purchase a new car, what you mainly look for is style, image and performance. If you are interested in alloy wheels UK, know that you have many options. You can ask at the dealership that sells the car if they do alloy wheels as well.

The great thing about alloys wheels is, they look awesome on any car. Whether you leave the showroom with a brand new Mercedes, or whether you leave with an old VW Beetle, a set of alloys just seems to add that magic touch.

Furthermore, alloys wheels have the ability to achieve a specific type of look. For example, fit a set of hardcore alloys onto your sleek looking performance car and it’ll look sportier than ever. Fit those same alloys onto any standard car and you can be rest assured, your car will look far more stylish that it previously did.

The other main reason why one should change their wheels is because of the performance. Drivers often don’t realize just how much of a role good wheels play in a vehicle’s performance. Good wheels will ensure the driver a good ride each and every time. Look after your car and it will look after you.

Unlike today, it hasn’t always been easy for UK drivers to get their hands on a set of good quality alloy wheels. In fact, it’s only because of new technology that these new super wheels are so readily available. As you no doubt already know, the modern alloy wheels which one finds nowadays are a fraction of the weight of regular steel rims.

Of course, the stronger and lighter your wheels are, the lighter the overall weight of the car is, thus making for a better drive. Additionally, with modern alloys being designed in such a way so as to ensure a larger contact area with the road, drivers can now experience a level of road handling never before possible.

Getting alloy wheels in UK is a good idea as it will be safer for you to drive your vehicle. It will increase your speed and improve your handling. When the tires of your car are good, it can sometimes reduce your fuel consumption. Now wouldn’t that be nice?

Having said so much already with regards to increased performance, one should also bear in mind that with increased performance comes a decrease in comfort, at least most of the time. For this reason, it’s crucial that you strike a balance between the two.

Buying alloy wheels in UK will be the best decision you make regarding your car. You will not look back.

Encinitas California Beaches and Inns

by Heather Hunnefeld

Encinitas is a little town located on the Pacific Ocean about 20 minutes north of San Diego airport. It’s just like a 1960’s California beach town. Hand made jewelery shops, the world famous Swami’s Mediation Retreat, more than two dozen yoga studios and spas, a dozen Mexican take-out restaurants, and locals and tourists alike walking around with surf boards give Encinitas a 1960’s feeling.

Ann Dunham is the hostess of a lovely little Bed and Breakfast called the Inn At Moonlight Beach, situated on a hillside overlooking the ocean. Moonlight Beach is the most popular beach in Encinitas, a great spot to simply get some sun, enjoy a picnic, play a game of pickup volleyball, try your hand at surfing or boogie-boarding, body surf, read a book, people watch or simply “chill.”

Every one of the four rooms or suites at Ann’s Inn At Moonlight Beach are decorated in the best of taste in the flavor of a French Beach Inn. Every morning will find Ann baking her guests warm-from-the-oven rolls, croissants, breads and pastries for breakfast.

Many guests at the inn start their day with a walk along the Pacific Ocean. From the inn you can walk for miles in either direction at sunrise and then return to the inn for a delicious home-made breakfast. Swami’s Beach was made famous by The Beach Boys in 1963 and is only a short walk along the sandy beach from the Inn.

If you stay at Ann’s Inn, you will awaken in the morning to the sounds of the of her meditative waterfall. You can drift back to sleep take a walk or jog along Moonlight Beach as Encinitas awakens.

After their early morning activities, guests return to the Inn and relax with a cup of fresh, hot Starbucks coffee and the morning newspaper in Ann’s breakfast sunroom, or enjoy their breakfast outside in the sunshine next to her soothing waterfall.

In the evenings, guests enjoy romantic moonlit walks on the beach. Others prefer to relax on the front porch of the Inn with a glass of wine while they enjoy the twilight over the ocean. When guests are ready for bed they can snuggle down under fine cotton linens and down-filled pillows and let the soothing songs of the waterfall and distant surf lull them to sleep.

Travel purses - Selecting the best one for you

by Deanna Keahey

Lots of experienced travelers carry a specific travel purse on their travels. Let’s face it — your needs in a purse on the road aren’t always the same as they are when you’re at home, so it makes sense that you might need a special travel purse. There are lots of different travel purses available, so how do you find a good one?

Take a look at the security that the purse offers. No matter where you are, you are going to discover that there is a chance that you may be a prospective victim of a purse snatching or pickpocketing. A good travel purse can help you beat this trend by having stainless steel wire mesh installed in the bottom of the purse as well as in the strap, making it more difficult for people to pull the purse off of your body or to cut through the bottom of the purse to get at your wallet. Some purses also have latches for the zipper pulls for extra security.

Another wise feature of many travel purses is having lots of separate compartments. This way, even if a thief is able to unzip one compartment without you noticing, they won’t get everything. It’s hard to imagine that they could unzip a dozen compartments before you noticed what was happening! It also makes it easier for you, since you may have a lot of different items with you when you’re traveling. Having an organizer-type purse with many compartments makes it easier to find what you’re looking for.

Light packers swear by small, unobtrusive travel purses. Compact bags can store everything from your passport to some toiletries to small gadgets, and they are designed to help you keep your most essential possessions together, but not a lot of extras. Larger bags can accommodate a world of travel essentials — from cameras, to guidebooks, to water bottles, to iPods.

If you’re looking for the lightest weight travel purse (always a consideration if you’re going to carry it for 8 hours of sightseeing!), then a nylon or other synthetic materials is a good choice. For durability and feel, leather is a classic, though it does tend to be heavier. A good leather purse can last for many years, though.

One of the most important parts of choosing a travel purse is choosing one that is right for you. For instance, if you don’t like the idea of slinging the purse from shoulder to opposite hip, why not look at one that is carried around the waist or that has an extra security strap across the chest? Make sure that the straps hang at a comfortable place on your frame, particularly if you are very short or tall.

Finally, you want something that’s easy. The last thing you want is a white purse (that will be dirty by the time you reach your destination), or something dainty (that will be quickly be ruined). It needs to be sturdy enough to stand up to the rigors of travel. And it needs to be something you can scuff up without worrying about it.

Having the right travel purse can make your trip easier, and safer too. And both of those can make it more enjoyable. So choose the best travel purse for your needs, stay safe, and have a great vacation!

Chili con Carne

by Ian Kleine

Contrary to popular belief, chili was not made in Mexico. It is actually (as most Texans would insist time and time again) a dish made in the good state of Texas. With the ingenuity of most of the poor people at that time (that time being with the Spanish conquistadors), they had effectively made a dish of all-spice and no meat (with the meat being terrible tasting anyway). Thus, the meat with chili, aka ‘chili con carne’ (is that chili with meat or chili and meat?) was born.

How to make the dish? Chili is basically sauce, herb and meat; nothing more. Adding other things not part of the basic recipe is usually done only for the flair or for accompanying flavors, but the skeleton of the recipe is enough to keep the mouth occupied.

Get meat, preferably beef. The harder and tougher, the better. Chili was originally made with too hard to eat meat (goat and venison, anyone?), so the cooking time depends on the meat. Also, the longer the chili cooks, the more flavor seeps in and mixes with one another. A good chili cooks for at least more than half a day or so, else you get a separate mixture of meat and beans. Soup not part of the bowl too.

The choice of herbs vary according to your taste, though the preferred chili is dried ancho, a common pepper. Cumin, black pepper, garlic, oregano, onion, sage (if you’re adventurous), and others. Those mentioned above are the most seen, and makes for some decent chili.

Cook the meat, add the herbs, liquid and slow cook. There are lots of recipes out there, but a good chili is a reheated chili. All chilis follow this rule. Serve the chili, next day, reheated. It’ll taste loads better, flavorful and thick.

The New Orleans Flood

by Charlie Reese

Going back to the Big Easy after the New Orleans flood was a pretty mind blowing experience. You see, unlike the popular media, I realize that New Orleans floods are not a unique thing. New Orleans is below sea level in an area extremely prone to flooding. Hurricane Katrina flooded the city and destroyed a lot of it, but it wasn’t the first hurricane to do that. I had always assumed that the media had overstated the extent of damage from the New Orleans flood.

When I saw it, it shocked me. It wasn’t even the same city anymore. Whole neighborhoods had been completely destroyed by the hurricane and partially rebuilt since I had last visited. The entire makeup of the city was different, with tens of thousands of people having been displaced permanently by the hurricane. Many poor families simply couldn’t afford to move back after the homes were wiped out. They had resettled in other places, never to return to the city they loved.

It is really disturbing for me to think of this with hurricane Gustav fast approaching. New Orleans flooding is already starting again, and who knows how bad it will get. Sure, it probably won’t get to Katrina levels, but I’m sure more people will die needlessly. It is a shame that in an age of such incredible modern technology and convenience, we can’t do anything to help prevent flooding in New Orleans.

Moved by what I was seeing, I decided to donate some money to help New Orleans flood victims. I was amazed by the number of different websites out there, and had a lot of trouble deciding on a relief agency to use at first. Soon, however, I made up my mind. I picked a local charity, feeling that an organization based out of New Orleans would do better work than one that didn’t know the area as well.

I could only give a little bit of money, but I hope that it helped. I know that flooding in New Orleans is already starting, and that the situation will get worse before it gets better. I know that a lot of people are already thinking about going down there to volunteer. I kind of like the idea myself, but I’m not sure if I will go yet. I might just end up down there before the end of the week if I can get my vacation time early, but I’m just not sure.

When You Travel, Pack Lightly!

by Rob Carlton

Many times when people travel, they have their own opinions on what they can and can’t do without! In fact, many times people will over pack because they can not do without certain things than under pack!

If you go on a business trip or just on a pleasurable vacation, of course you want it to be memorable; however, you do not want to take too many things! When packing your bags, there are some tips that you should follow for when you go on vacation; for packing your “must have items”.

1. You will always want to make sure that you plan as well as write down your itinerary as to where you want to go and what you want to see. Then, you will have to make the proper arrangements either online or through a travel agent.

2. You will want to make sure that you have all the essential items; such as passports, tickets, money, toothbrush, and clean clothing.

3. Make sure that you pack the proper clothing for the trip and weather. You will want to make sure that they can be worn any time and anywhere; no matter what the occasion.

4. Along with clothing, you will want to make sure that your shoes are comfortable and not hurting your feet; as you are not sure of how much walking you will be doing.

5. If you are on medication, make sure that you bring enough for the duration of the trip. Also, you should always bring insect repellent; as you never know when you’ll need it!

6. For your own precaution, it is best to make sure that your luggage locks and you have an extra set of keys; besides the originals. You never know what could happen!

7. It is always a great idea to have an extra bag with you to put gifts or souvenirs in when your traveling, rather than having to carry them in your hand all day!

8. Before going out, study a map to learn the area; so that you don’t become lost. It’s better to know your way around, than having to ask a complete stranger.

9. If you would rather drive than take public transportation, learn all the rules and regulations; as well as getting rental insurance.

10. Make sure that you properly label all the luggage so that it does not get confused with anyone else’s. Not only put your name but your address as well!

When going on your vacation, all you have to do is slow down to enjoy all the beautiful sights and have a pleasant trip!!
