Are You Buying A Baby Stroller? Here’s Some Stroller Safety Tips.

by Peter Sontanich

Isn’t it wonderful when you bring your first baby home? Suddenly your life has changed forever, and in ways you didn’t even think about before baby. You’re about to discover how much more difficult it is to get around now with a baby than it was before baby. You need a baby stroller.

And you’ll find that there are some practical problems getting around with a new baby too. Suddenly you can’t rush out at the last minute, jump in the car and go. Getting in the car with baby has become a longer more drawn out process.

In the past you could buy a pram. A solid steel pram. It was solid and heavy, and very hard to fold up and put in the car. It was inconvenient. When you were going out you had to allow 20 minutes to get the pram and baby into the car.

But modern technology allows the manufacture of strollers that overcome these problems. They are lighter, fold up much better and are way easier to push, with bigger wheels.

And there’s many more benefits to a modern baby stroller too. They should have reclining seats, so baby can either sit up or lie down, and so is much more comfortable at any time. And they have adjustable footrests too, so as baby grows the footrest can be moved.

And they have storage space for mums gear or shopping, and they have brakes so that you can stop the stroller confidently.

Whilst on the subject of brakes make sure the stroller you get has a foot operated brake that operates brakes on all wheels at the same time. The brakes should be good enough to hold a fully loaded stroller on a hill, although you shouldn’t ever park the stroller on a hill unless absolutely necessary. And if you do then put the brakes on but also park the stroller across the hill for optimum safety.

And while talking about safety make sure you’re getting a solid adjustable 5 point safety harness, that’s essential. There have been accidents in the past where baby has tried to stand up, and succeeded.

And here’s 2 more safety tips to using baby strollers, because safety is so important. When you need to go upstairs with a baby in a stroller look for a lift. It’s difficult to take a baby in a stroller safely up stairs. If you absolutely must then you should take baby out. Safer, just don’t.

And lastly, don’t tie your dog lead to the stroller if you’re taking the dog. You could well find that suddenly the dog takes off, the stroller follows, and baby is gone.

And a stroller is very affordable. You can find excellent strollers brand new for around $200 if you know where to look. That’s convenience for you and comfort for your baby at a very affordable price.

Got A Pink-Lover On Your Shopping List?

by DeeDee Dobson

Need a pink gift for that special someone? Look no further: I have put together a list of six great gifts that would make any pink-lover swoon. And if you happen to like the item but wish it wasn’t pink - no worries. Most of these come in other colors as well.

Weleda Wild Rose Body Oil Swiss company Weleda grow most plant ingredients that go into their products biodynamically in their own gardens on a plateau in southern Germany. Biodynamic cultivation uses no pesticides or toxic substances whatsoever, so you don’t have to worry about your skin absorbing all those pesky chemicals that are found in many mainstream oils and lotions. Their wild rose body oil comes in a dark blue glass bottle with a bright pink label and the main ingredients are jojoba, sweet almond, and organic musk rose oil. If the thought of putting oil on your skin grosses you out, don’t worry - it does get absorbed very quickly, and leaves your skin incredibly soft and sweet smelling (not overpoweringly “rosey”). $25.

Chic Lady Wine Opener The unique “swing system” of the Chic Lady corkscrew from French company L’Atelier du Vin takes the struggle out of uncorking your wine. Softly curved and stylish, it comes in pale or hot pink and retails for around $44. If you’d like to include a bottle of wine with it, may I suggest Domaine de la Mordore La Dame Rousse ros?

Stovetop Espresso Machine Bialetti’s cute logo alone is enough to make me want to add any of their products to my kitchen (and I rarely drink coffee!). But it just got even better with the release of 2 pink versions of their stovetop espresso/cappuccino makers: The Dama Pink ($42.95) and the Mukka Express ($89.95). Not only do they produce amazingly tasty espresso and cappuccino, they look fantastic, and a part of the proceeds of each goes to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Cutest Camcorder On Earth The Flip MinoHD from Pure Digital Technologies is not only a great little camcorder (3.94″x1.97″x0.63″); it is cute as can be as well. What makes it so cute? You get to design it! Choose a style from their gallery (there are tons!), use their “pattern maker” to create a totally unique pattern, or upload your own design or photo. But it’s not all looks: it has a 2x digital zoom, an f/2.4 lens, a 1.5″ screen, 4GB of internal memory, a built-in flip-out USB arm, and a tripod mount, and it only weighs 3.3 oz. The price? $229.

Samsung TL9 Digital Camera The metallic bubblegum pink Samsung TL9 is not only a great little camera; it’s also a jack-of-all-trades. Packed into its stylish body are also MP3 and multimedia players, a text viewer, camcorder, and voice recorder. The camera part features 10.2 megapixles, a 5x optical zoom, a (35mm equivalent) focal length of 38 ~ 190mm, dual image stabilization, face, smile and blink detection, and a beauty shot mode which automatically retouches facial skin. Dashboard-style dials tell you how much battery life and memory you have left. It’s tiny too: 3.7×2.3×0.8″ and 4.9 oz. $229-$253.

Cell Phones by Vertu Nokia-subsidiary Vertu operates out of a super-secure building in the English countryside, where expert craftsmen assemble these luxury phones by hand using precious metals and stones inside and out. Never heard of them? Most people haven’t, Vertu does not advertise in the US (but they are pretty widely available here).

Their Constellation collection includes the Core Range in polished stainless steel and bright pink leather, the Precious Range in black leather and 18 carat rose gold, and the Monogram Range’s “Cerise”, in stainless steel and a pink leather patterned back. All measure 4.3×1.7×0.6″, weigh around 5 oz, have Bluetooth email and speakers, and work in over 180 countries.

If you’re really in the mood to splurge, check out their Signature Diamonds collection. The Rose Gold Pink Diamonds phone in black, framed with a flower-design border, is made from white and pink diamonds, pink sapphires and rubies. Perhaps a good gift for those who really want to go all out but aren’t ready for that engagement ring quite yet

The most exclusive feature on these phones, however, is probably the “concierge button”. By pressing this little button (on the side of the phone), you reach a personal assistant, who can help you (24 hours a day) with everything from finding a perfect restaurant for a romantic dinner to arranging for a private jet so you don’t miss that important business meeting.

12 Months Free Line Rental - The Cheapest Possible Mobile

by Clinton Sack

Have any of your friends ever gotten a mobile phone completely free of charge, not just the handset itself, but the line rental too? Well, some of mine have, and here is how they do it!

Well, if you haven’t, you are about to find out how you can get a completely free mobile phone for 12 months. That means a free handset, with free calls and free text messaging!

By now you will have smelled a rat, it is not possible for retailers to give away free phones on free 12 month contracts and still make a profit, is it?

The way it works is this, when taking out your new mobile contract the retailer offers to give you cash back, to cover the cost of your bills. So, initially you have to pay the bill as normal. At this point, you are out of pocket, not what you would expect from a 12 months free line rental deal!

Later on in the contract, the retailer will give you the chance to make a claim for cash back from them. This cash back is what actually covers the cost of the mobile phone contract. Once you get that money back from the phone retailer, you will have got your phone cost free for 12 months.

So how do the retailers make money? Surely retailers lose money on free line rental deals? Absolutely, but, only if the customer successfully makes their claim for cashback! If the customer forgets to make that claim, then they end up paying their line rental as normal, and the retailer makes their money. You see, it is a battle of wits!

To reduce the number of people making a successful claim, retailers insist that you submit your claim on a particular date hoping you will forget! They also insist that you produce documentation such as phone bills, which they hope you will lose! By putting trips and clauses like these into free line rental deals retailers make sure that enough customers fail to get their cash back for them to make a profit. So, only by you failing to claim can the retailer make their money!

So, yes, 12 month free deals are too good to be true, but, they are also possible to exploit. It is possible to out smart the retailers and get that elusive 12 month free contract, but you have to be determined.

If you opt for a free line rental deal you would be well advised to organise yourself. Make sure you have the relevant dates and documentation to hand so that when you make your claim it all goes smoothly, and you get your free line rental deal!

How to Buy a Laminator Machine

by Jerry D Wilson

Laminating is the process of having two plastics sheets sealed over a piece of paper. It gives a document a more professional and official look, and ensures that it is protected from damage, tampering and tearing. ID cards and official documents such as passports are usually laminated along with other security measures.

In order to laminate a document you will require a machine called a laminator. These laminating machines come in a wide range of types and sizes. The larger machines are used mostly in commercial businesses or schools where a large amount of laminating needs to take place. The smaller laminators are used mostly in home businesses or for personal use where only a small amount of laminating needs to be done.

If cost is an issue and you only require a limited amount of laminating done then a pouch laminator should be on your shopping list. These type of laminators use two heated rollers to seal a pouch of plastic over the document. A pouch laminator is often cost effective and are great for small business or home use.

Of course, if you require a large amount of lamination done then you will need a more expensive and larger type of machine. Roll laminators fit this bill and are usually used in a commercial capacity, large government departments or schools. As with a pouch laminator, they use heated rollers to work. However, they are able process a larger number of documents in a short period of time. Due to the heat produced they shouldn’t be used on documents that might be damaged by something hot.

The third type of laminating machine is the ID laminator. As the name suggests, these laminators are designed to laminate ID cards. Some machines enable you to insert micro text, micro chips or other anti-forgery designs under the laminate plastic. Others punch holes so that you can attach a lanyard or clip to the ID card.

Not all laminators can laminate different thickness. If you need to laminate a document that is thicker than paper - such as thick cardboard - then you will need to buy a machine that is specifically able to do so. These are usually a little more expensive but they should have the capability to adjust the thickness so that you can use the machine on all different types of materials.

You can buy laminating machines from office stores or department stores. If you want to find one at a cheaper price than retail then it is possible to find them at ex-government auctions, foreclosure sales and second hand office stores. Another option is to investigate well known online retailers like eBay where people often sell their old laminators.

Five Steps for Buying the Best Home Office Furniture

by Pat Borden

Today there are more people working at home than ever before. It’s definitely a great idea to have a specific area that is your office, and if you do so, you’ll need to have some office furniture to furnish the office. No matter what type of furniture you are looking for, for your office, it’s important that you know what to look for. So, if you are purchasing home office furniture, here are some great tips that will help.

Tip #1 - Take measurements of your office space - One of the first items to take care of even before searching for home office furniture is to take accurate measurements of the space. Having good measures is important so you can keep in mind how much space is available. When you have the measurements in advance, it will enhance your ability to find the style and size that is the best match for your space.

Tip #2: Comfort and function are your priority. If you go and search for home office furniture, comfort and function must both be a priority for you. This is far more vital than just searching for nice-looking furniture. Certainly you’d want the home office to look nice, but it is preferable to get furniture which is practical and comfortable for you rather than to get something which looks nice but causes trouble because it’s not comfortable.

Tip #3 - Look for durable furnishings- Office furniture is only as good as the materials from which it is made. A quality piece of furniture that is made with a strong frame will be much more durable, and last longer. This is an important aspect to consider, as your office furniture is an investment that should stand the test of time. Any fabrics should be comfortable and easy to clean, and the furniture should be both practical and functional.

Tip #4 - You ought to have a budget in mind before you start to shop for home office furniture. You should really set your budget before you begin to seek out possible furniture options. Keep those figures constantly in mind, so that you never spend more than your budget will allow. Having a budget makes it less likely that you will make a random impulse buy that will push your total spending to excessive levels.

Tip #5 - Make sure your office chair’s comfortable - When looking to buy home office furniture, it’s vital to remember comfort in your purchase criteria. Since you’ll be spending a great deal of time in the chair, ideally it should feel good, be able to change to your body’s needs and be able to move around well.

La Seu Is the Jewel of Barcelona

by Boris Itungen

Whether you are religious or not, when you visit Barcelona, be sure to visit La Seu. It is one of the best surviving examples of medieval architecture in the world.

La Seu’s full name is the Cathedral de la Santa Crue i Santa Eulalia (Cathedral of the Holy Crucifix and of Saint Eulalia). It is located on the site of a Roman basilica, which was built in 343 A.D. Although it was destroyed by the Moors in 985 A.D., a Romanesque cathedral was built there in 1058 A.D., and incorporated into the current structure in the 1300s. Construction was a slow process begun during King Jaume II’s reign. Work continued into the 19th century, as wars, epidemics and other difficulties delayed progress. Because of the long period, the structure contains Romanesque and Gothic elements.

The wait was well worth it as the current structure is magnificent: over 300 ft/90 m long. Its central spire is 230 ft/70 m high with unusual octangal clock towers that were built between 1386 and 1393. Probably the most famous part of the exterior is the facade, with its concentric arches over the entrance. These are distinctly different from even other Gothic churches.

Don’t stop outside, however. The interior is also memorable: Wood carvings dominate every wall. And what Gothic cathedral would be complete without stained glass? Some of the interior was designed by Antonin Gaudi, later famous for La Sagrada Familia Cathedral.

Historical artifacts also abound: In a side chapel is a Crucifix from the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. It is said the Corpus (Christ figure) on this Crucifix bent to the right in order to avoid a cannonball. Another Crucifix from that era can be seen in the Capella de Sant Benet (Chapel of St. Benedict).

There are many side chapel on the main floor of the church, each with its own interesting artifacts. But don’t miss going down to the crypt below the Altar. There you can see the body of St. Eulalia, the patron saint of Barcelona. It is said the 13-year-old girl was martyred by the Romans by being rolled in a barrel stuck full of knives. Other stories say she was burned at the stake, which was not common practice at the time.

Before you leave the building, go up to the roof, for a wonderful view of the Barri Gotic (Gothic Quarter) and the rest of Barcelona. On your way out, visit the beautiful courtyard in the cloister, which is always stocked with 13 white geese in honor of young St. Eulalia. The quiet patio and fountain make a serene oasis from the bustling city.

La Seu is easy to find from the metro stops at Jaume I or Liceu. It will definitely be a high-point in your visit to Barcelona.

Night vision glasses to see like batman

by Janice Dolices

As child we all had dreams of seeing in the dark like the heroes in our comic books. How many of us actually achieved this dream? Well, you’ll be pleased to know that now each and every one of us has the power to realise these dreams. Night vision goggles! Its a daunting task selecting the right pair but hopefully this manual will help you out.

First you need to decide what type of night vision equipment you want. You can have either image intensifying or thermal and they both have different advantages and disadvantages. There is also a big price gaps so picking the wrong type for your purpose could be very costly.

Thermal night vision goggles are adept at seeing the heat lines around the objects in the view finder. They assign differing heat colours to allow you to differentiate things. They usually work at their best when used to locate animals and living animals that let off a large heat signature. This variety is generally used by law enforcement operatives.

The other main style of night vision goggles are known as image intensifiers. These work through the use of electrons passing over a weird internal plate. They make it easier for the user to see by tracing another, clearer image around this darker light. This is a massively effective method although it does have a drawback. It needs a slight light source to work initially. They low tech will not work in complete darkness.

The shape of your night vision device will vary wildly depending on its primary role and purpose, hunting equipment for example will come in the shape of a scope. The military use eye mounted devices that fit onto the helmets of soldiers to enable them to locate the enemy without using their hands to see.

The resolution of the image is without doubt the largest factor to determine the price you pay. In brief the resolution is how many lines there are on the screen. The more there are the clearer and crisper the representation will be.

The mobility of your equipment is also an important factor. It’s no use at all having the latest and greatest state of the art equipment if it’s too cumbersome and unwieldy to use effectively. You may even find yourself leaving heavy equipment in its box at home, which ultimately means you wasted a lot of money on something you don’t actually use or need. Of all the varieties the monocular is the easiest to haul and fits easily into a long jacket pocket.

The effective range of your equipment is important to many users. Hunters in particular need an effective range that enables them to see their targets from a greater distance. You should be able to find the range on the box, make sure to check it’s sufficient before you part with your cash.

As you can see there’s a lot to think about when purchasing something as expensive as this and not a decision you can make lightly. Remember to try to pick your night vision glasses based on your needs and not because you want to look like Rambo!

Hannah Montana Music Made Miley and Her Show Famous

by Sandra Clayton

You may love hannah montana music, but what do you know about the show and its famous star, Miley Cyrus? The show’s first filming in Malibu, California took place in December, 2005 and the first episode aired about three months later in March, 2006. Miley’s house on the show is the same house from the show, Diagnosis Murder (about a crime-solving doctor), which starred Dick Van Dyke and first aired when Miley Cyrus was not quite one year old!

The title of every episode of Hannah Montana is inspired by a famous pop song. For example, “Don’t Go Breaking My Tooth” (in which Miley is afraid to go to the dentist) is like “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”, by Elton John and Kiki Dee.

Though kids everywhere love the stories of the character Miley Stewart and the other side of her, Hannah Montana, it’s hannah montana music that really made Miley Cyrus and her show famous. The original Hannah Montana soundtrack made history by becoming the first TV soundtrack to ever reach #1 on the charts. It sold 281,000 copies in the first week alone, and a total of 1.6 million copies in just two months.

The Hannah Montana soundtrack showed the powerful influence kids have on the music industry. Both kids and parents like hannah montana music for different reasons. Kids like it because it’s modern and fun, and they love Miley’s voice. Parents like it because of the positive messages in the songs. They don’t have to worry about what their kids are listening to.

Actually, the stars of Hannah Montana have been making hit music long before the show ever got its start. On the show, Miley Stewart’s dad, Robbie Stewart, is played by Miley Cyrus’s real-life dad, Billy Ray Cyrus. He became a heartthrob in the ’90s for his country-pop crossover hit, “Achy Breaky Heart”.

Originally, Miley Cyrus auditioned for the role of Hannah’s best friend, Lilly. Disney encouraged Miley to re-audition for the role of Hannah, and she got the part, beating 1000 other girls! Her character’s name was then changed from Zoe Stewart to Miley Stewart. Emily Osment (sister of The Sixth Sense star, Haley Joel Osment) got the role of Lilly. During breaks on the set, Miley taught Emily the guitar and Emily taught Miley knitting.

On Episode 1 of Hannah Montana, Hannah is 13, though a reporter calls her a “14-year-old sensation”. It has also been said that the Hannah/Miley character is one year younger than the real Miley. Still, Miley Cyrus herself is a very young girl to show so much talent. She helped make Hannah Montana and hannah montana music wildly successful between the ages of only 13 and 16!
