Google Doesn’t Favour Brands In The Ranking Algorithm
Someone wrote a post not to long ago about google and the extra weight it gives the big brands in the search results. The post mentioned google gave extra credit to the big brands in the search engines for there popular terms, but this is not the case.
Google ranks websites based on different factors and like Matt Cutts mentioned in a recent video, anyone can rank number one for any term.
The main factors that help a website rank highly are formed of some of the most important fundamentals behind running a successful business. For example I have written out a brief description of the important points for you to skim over and familiarise yourself with them.
The first is obvious and pretty much everyone knows that if your website has a high pagerank then that means google favours your site and thinks the content on your site is worth some value. If you can get your websites pagerank high it will make life easier when ranking for keyterms. The quickest and easiest way to increase your pagerank is to get inbound links from websites that already have a pagerank, it also a good idea to get these links from sites that relate to your content and promote your link with your keyterms as the anchor text.
When operating a business the reputation of that business is important. Having a bad reputation means you wont get much business and google strives on bring back results that are relevant to the search term and are trustworthy i.e have a good reputation.
This brings me nicely to my third point, which is making your website an authority website will help get your site ranked for the harder terms. Authority websites are websites that appear at the top of google for many terms, by having your website ranked highly for many of your smaller terms will help make your website an authority site.
Try to only use unique content on your website that has been search engine optimized for some of your keyterms. Content is a great way to get your website ranked highly in google for a lot of the non popular keyterms and will help to make your site an authority site.
Another way to help increase your search engine position is inbound links. If you’re going to link build then I suggest only trying to get links from relevant sites as they are the types of links google looks for. Having relevant inbound links will have a huge impact on your search engine position and will help to increase targeted traffic to your website.
